SitOrSquat Blog

Written by the SitOrSquat team; Danika Landers & Jonathan Glanz. We'll talk about anything related to what we are up to at SitOrSquat. Jon tends to talk "tech" while Danika goes for the more social, creative and fun topics.

We've added COMMUNITY to SitOrSquat.com
Posted By: danika (443 days ago)

As you can see, we've changed sitorsquat.com around a bit. We've had such great responses from so many of you as well as suggestions on how to improve what we've already got. Because of this, we thought it would make sense to provide a community space where you guys can communicate with one another on multiple topics. And yes, as silly as it may sound in the beginning, there ARE many topics to discuss on public bathrooms!

So let me take you through what we've added. We have a new community section. Here, you'll see Blogs, News, Forums and of course, Humor. Right now, Forums is still being worked on. It's just a bit more complicated than some of the other features but we will have it here for you guys within a few days! When Forums does become live, you'll see it's a place for you all to talk amongst yourselves. Whether it's sharing your latest bathroom experience you had with the kids on a long road trip or it's discussing IBS issues with others who share the same health problems. We want this to be a place where people can help each other, share information, and of course, have a good laugh if someone's sharing a funny bathroom story.

Blogs is where you can go and read what our partnered bloggers are talking about. We'll be adding more bloggers as time goes by. Each blogger is relevant to different groups of people. Eventually, we'd like to have a blogger for all the subjects we want to cover (i.e. IBS, Crohn's Disease, handicapped people, parents, travelers, etc). And of course, we'll be listening closely to what you guys suggest. So far, we've teamed up with a mother of three, Romi Lassaly, who started Truu Mom Confessions. She's expanded her site now to much more than just mom's, so definitely check it out! She'll be talking about everything parent related. We're extremely excited to have her on board.

The News section is where we'll keep you all updated with SitOrSquat news. Everything from new partners and sponsors to the latest updates and what we are working on. This is really the same as what News was in Version 2.0 of the website.

And lastly, we have the Humor section. I mean, afterall, we are talking about bathrooms and that in itself is kind of funny! :) We've compiled a ton of funny content which we've found that already exists on the internet, mostly from YouTube. We took what we thought were the funniest bathroom related videos and posted them in this space. You'll see everything from people doing the Pee Pee Dance to stand up comics giving their two cents on the public bathroom. I have to say, this was probably the most fun part of building this versions 3 site! I hope you enjoy the new videos as much as I did. Also, keep in mind, we want you guys to be more and more involved and I think this section especially would benefit from your participation. Send us your favorite funny bathroom links. Whether it's a video you shot yourself or something you found (that can be shown on other sites of course). It can also be a funny joke, illustration or a bathroom story that would make anyone laugh. This section is pure fun entertainment!

Team SitOrSquat Walks for Parkinsons
Posted By: danika (443 days ago)

As some of you know, we've created a team this year to raise money for Parkinson's research. We had a fantastic turnout with friends and family on April 25th in Central Park. It was a gorgeous day (90°F!) We ended up raising a total of $3,550 which was absolutely amazing. This event is personally meaningful to me as my father was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease about 9 years ago. Since then, I have been attending these walks in Central Park every April. This was the first year we've walked as Team SitOrSquat. I ended up Twittering about the walk and the donation info and to my surprise, one of our users (who I had never met before) generously donated to the team. I am still getting the hang of Twitter (as I think the rest of the world is as well!) so when I saw that, it really touched me. I also made custom T-shirts for the team this year which was a lot of fun (and a lot of ironing the night before!).

Who We Are
Posted By: danika (444 days ago)

The Birth: Sit or Squat was born on October of 2007 as a silly little personal blog. In September of 2008 it became something bigger, much bigger.

The Story: The act of relieving oneself is somewhat an artform. It is rarely talked about yet we do it everyday. If we are home, most of us feel comfortable enough that the process doesn't even faze us. However, the real dilemma comes when our personal space is not our personal space. This dilemma is commonly known as, public restroom. A few drops on a toilet seat can set off red alerts to one person while another may not even blink an eye. We've all got different taste and where we put our bare bottoms can certainly be a priority.

Sitorsquat.com is a site that is dedicated to telling you where the closest place to relieve yourself is and whether or not that place is worth even sitting or squatting (or standing) at. We all find ourselves needing a public restroom every once in a while, whether it's walking down a city block or driving on a highway with a few whining kids in the backseat. This application is designed to be viewed either on your computer or your mobile device. It functions worldwide as it is based on Google Maps. The toilets on Sit or Squat are submitted by anyone The site can be personalized for each member based on their needs and preferences. A member is also able to create a list of their favorite toilets as well as share them with their friends. As time goes by and more data is recorded, the site will continue to get more accurate in ratings as well as more options in places to go. We all need to relieve ourselves everyday, so the chances of it being somewhere other than your home are pretty high. So for that reason alone, we bring you sitorsquat.com.

Enjoy and may all your future toilet experiences be something memorable and worthy of telling others about!

The Team:

Danika Landers is an artsy fartsy girl who happens to find bathrooms fascinating and fun to talk about. Yes, she has a big weird side to her, how else do you make a site devoted to bathrooms?

Jonathan Glanz is a racecar driver who happens to be an engineer to boot.
